About this app

This is the Free version of the PHEV Watchdog App.

Please try the Free version and visit the website to see the added features you'll have with this version.

This App accesses the car data through the OBD2 interface to monitor and process a wide range of data from the drive battery, combustion engine and electric motor.
Live data is then displayed in a convenient way on multiple screens from where you can swipe from one to another (see the screenshots).
Several statistical data are also computed by the App and a full historical log of the trips and of the drive battery condition is maintained.

In order for that to be possible you will need an adapter that will be plugged into the OBD2 port and perform the communications between the App and the Car. You can find many of these adapters online for a very reasonable price. In addition at this moment, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (that is the communication between the App and the adapter) are supported by the App.

Please check the website to learn more about OBD2 protocol and for a complete list of adapters reported to work with the App.

The PHEV Watchdog App will run on any Android device with a minimum version of Android v4.1 (Jelly Bean) and that has Bluetooth or Wi-Fi available.

If you have your device's location enabled (GPS) this will add location and altitude data, but it is not mandatory in order for the App to work.

At the moment the following PHEV models are supported by the App:

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (up to 2021)
Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV
Hyundai Ioniq PHEV
KIA Niro PHEV
KIA Optima/Optima SW PHEV (only 2019 and + models)
KIA XCeed/XCeed SW PHEV
KIA Sorento PHEV

The app is very handy if you own a 1-st or 2-nd gen Outlander PHEV. The ad at the bottom never distracts, I also like a good looking UI with is futuristic yet minimal! Although others report unstable work, for me the app works flawlessly in pair with a OBDLink BT adapter. One thing I really miss is the "battery map" option. I hadn't had a need in it when the feature existed, but once the time has come to identify weak cells in my car's HV battery, I couldn't find that option anywhere in the app.

Works a treat with the transparent blue el-cheapo "ELM 323 Mini" bluetooth adapter I bought from eBay years ago. Two things to note:- 1) The odometer is slightly out, possibly due to the kilometres-to-miles conversion. My car's done just over 47K and the app reads 7 miles light (I think it was 7). 2) If using the app on your phone, the car's hands-free system will fight over the bluetooth connection and kick off the OBD interface. Either tell your phone to "forget" the hands-free system or use a different phone/tablet for the app.

Use to be better! When the app wasn't even in the store it worked flawlessly. Since there is a paid version, the free version is unrealiable, crashes and disconnects a lot even if my device is a V-LINK (just so that I won't be redirected to see the list of compatible devices). It still is a good informative app regarding some car parameters. The biggest drawback, none of the information is official and recognized by car dealers, not even the paid version.

No changes for more than 2 years now on either free or premium apps in the way they communicate with the adapter. And I'll have to redirect you to the list of compatible devices because VLink is not part of it.
